Amelia L. McCarthy

McCarthy

Ms. McCarthy, a member of the firm, practices in the areas of general commercial, products liability and food safety litigation.  Ms. McCarthy formerly served as a Municipal Prosecutor for a Wisconsin community and has served as a Public Service Special Prosecutor for the Dane County and Milwaukee County District Attorney’s offices.

Ms. McCarthy has tried over 50 court and jury trials. She also successfully defended four class action lawsuits, obtaining three dismissals with prejudice and one nuisance value settlement without having to proceed through class certification.

Ms. McCarthy is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. She has also been named a “Super Lawyer” by Law & Politics; she is listed in Super Lawyers’ “Corporate Counsel Edition;” she has obtained the AV® Preeminent peer rating from Martindale Hubbell®; and she was recognized by The Milwaukee Business Journal as one of Milwaukee’s top “40 Under 40” business leaders.

Ms. McCarthy received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Carthage College and her law degree from Marquette University Law School, where she served as an editor for the Marquette Law Review and competed in the Phillip Jessup International Law Moot Court competition.

Ms. McCarthy recently returned from a sabbatical in Ondangwa, Namibia (Africa) where she served as an NGO Advisor to Oonte Orphans and Vulnerable Children Organization through the United States Peace Corps.  While in Namibia, she also assisted Namibia’s Legal Assistance Centre and lawyers and judges from across southern Africa to develop Namibia’s Child Care and Protection Bill.  The Bill will reform Namibia’s existing Child Care and Protection laws which were all enacted during apartheid and prior to Namibia’s Independence.

Ms. McCarthy is licensed to practice in Wisconsin and Colorado.  She serves as an advisor to the Humanities Division at Carthage College and she is a member of the Carthage College Alumni Council.
